Annette Taylor was a Haitian entrepreneur who created a successful retail store in the Bahamian isle of Eleuthera.

Annette’s entrepreneurial journey began while in her 30’s in Haiti and continued after she emigrated to the Bahamas. Annette gained her start by investing her husband’s leftover earnings, who worked as a local tailor. She bought merchandise and sold them from her car, after recognizing a need in her community for hygiene products. The initial success from this venture led to the opening of her first brick-and-mortar store, which continued to grow in assortment. Her product offerings ranged from hygiene goods, textile fabrics, and clothing for men, women, and children. At her peak, Annette had two brick-and-mortar stores open simultaneously and was the second largest dry-goods retailer on the island of Rock Sound, Eleuthera.

Annette was a pillar in her community. Annette provided employment opportunities to locals as a means of economic empowerment, many of whom were women. On average, she had 8-9 employees of all ages working in her stores. Annette had a reputation for remaining open after hours to serve the needs of her customers. In addition, Annette also had a reputation for her generosity, and placed a high value on charitable giving.

This is demonstrated by our commitment to being resilient, providing high-level service to our customers, and prioritizing social responsibility in our business operations.
